In 2007, Leslie jumped on board with
Johnny Vance & The Outsiders.
Leslie (“ Les ”) Kuipers, a self-taught guitarist of many styles, was born in The Netherlands and makes his current residence on Cape Cod . His interest in the guitar, from an early age, brought him down smooth and bumpy roads but got better as time passed.
In the late 70’s, he and Vinnie Colaiuta joined Christopher and Janet Morris to form the Christopher Morris Band. This collaboration resulted in recording of several demo’s which got into the hands of Al Kooper, noted producer and performer with artists such as Dylan, Rolling Stones, Blood Sweat & Tears, Hendrix and Lynyrd-Skynyrd. Al took Les , Vinnie, Christopher and Janet on tour, along with then unknown Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performing as their opening act. Al was instrumental in producing an album for MCA called, “The Christopher Morris Band” with supporting musicians Tower of Power doing the horns. To promote this album the Christopher Morris Band was fortunate to go on tour, opening for noted blues artist BB King. Recently Les was mentioned as guitarist in Al Kooper’s book, Back Stage Passes and Back Stabbing Bastards, 1998 Billboard Books.
Les continues writing, recording music and is available for teaching guitar (picking and muting techniques) and the use of stomp boxes in any musical situation. He is still seen playing in clubs and events with many local musicians on Cape Cod .
The remaining members of the Christopher Morris Band remain busy as well. Janet and Christopher are active writing and recording originals. Vinnie Colaiuta, noted for his works with Zappa and Sting, is one of the most sought after studio session drummers in the business. Vinnie most recently is touring with Jeff Beck and Herbie Hancock. To this day Les remains in close touch with Vinnie, Christopher and Janet.
